PJD Guitars Origin Series Featured by Mixdown Magazine

PJD Guitars has landed in Australia.

Mixdown Magazine covered the news recently, and it’s worth a read for anyone wanting the full story behind the brand. Read it here.

PJD started in a home workshop in the UK, built by founder Leigh Dovey using tools he inherited from his father. The brand was founded in 2010 and named in memory of him, a prop maker at the Royal Opera House in Covent Garden. That background shows up in how the guitars are made: small-batch, UK-built, with playability and craftsmanship taking priority over everything else.

The Origin Series is the production-built range developed from PJD’s custom shop models. The brief wasn’t to simplify the guitars, it was to keep the details that matter, body proportions, neck feel, tonal balance, and bring the price down without losing any of that.

Four models make up the range, each pulling from a familiar shape and refining it:

  • Carey – a single-cut built for rock, blues and indie, with balanced tone and smooth playability.
  • St John – a lightweight offset for players after something with more character, suited to indie and alternative styles.
  • York – a modern-cut body with snap and clarity, comfortable across country, rock and blues.
  • Woodford – a modern double-cut built for versatility between clean and driven tones.

Every Origin Series guitar landing in Australia is inspected and supported locally through Paytons, who’ve been distributing instruments since 1881. For players after something outside the usual run of mainstream brands, the full range is now in the country and ready to be played, not just read about.
